Today Democrats are learning that one of our candidates for Governor will end his campaign citing the tough fundraising environment. Well let me take this opportunity to say that I too am struggling with fundraising during this devastating recession, but I won't back down from the fight ahead.
The fact is campaign fundraising was a tough chore before unemployment skyrocketed in southeast Michigan and it's even more difficult today. But as I watch people across this district lose their jobs, their homes and their healthcare I get angrier and angrier about what Thaddeus McCotter isn't doing. This motivates me to stay focused on the task at hand so we have the money to hold Thaddeus McCotter accountable on Election Day.
Despite the difficulties we face, now is the time to fight together so we can put southeast Michigan back on course to prosperity with new jobs, a stronger economy and access to affordable health care without pre-existing conditions. I am in this fight until the end, and I plan to beat McCotter on Election Night.
Senator Kennedy eloquently summarized this sentiment when he said, "The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die."
